Every year thousands of homes around Western Australia light up for Christmas, literally.
Lighting up your front yard each Christmas is all about sharing the joy of the festive season, and it’s no different for South West Family, the Cottons.
Mr Cotton spent five hours this year decorating his family home, situated on the corner of Minninup Road and Hillcrest Avenue, all to the delight of passers-by.
“I love everything about Christmas – I’m just a big kid at heart – I love looking at other people’s lights too,” he said.
“I’m not as bad as the Griswolds in National Lampoon’s Christmas but I’m getting there.”
Each year, the Cottons add a new display to their home, and this year, they added two reindeer to their collection, which includes a candy cane lane and Father Christmas on the roof.
Starting six years ago, there are now 18 separate items plugged to make up their eye-catching display.
Mr Cotton said he hoped people would come and look for themselves.
“That is the coolest – to sit on the porch and watch people slow down and look at the lights,” he said.
Christmas lights in Bunbury can be viewed in suburbs such as South Bunbury, Dunstan Street, Hastie St, Minninup Rd, Withers, Julia Drive, Dalyellup, Dalyellup Boulevard, Aurora Drive, Wornt Rd, McMillan Drive, Meadow Landing, Bevan Loop and Eaton.
