A proposal to build a $30 million regional art gallery on Bunbury’s waterfront will not affect the State Government’s waterfront proposal.
The art gallery was proposed for the bank of the Leschenault Inlet opposite the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre last November.
Whilst three sites are included in the Bunbury Waterfront Taskforce’s draft plan, each site was being considered separately and the proposed art gallery did not affect the viability of the waterfront project, which includes high-rise residential accommodation up to seven stories high on Koombana South.
Council was expected to endorse the proposal at the meeting earlier in the week, with a business case and controlling committee to be established later this month.
The proposed gallery would include a contemporary art gallery and space to display the City of Bunbury art collections as well as hosting local and touring exhibitions and works by local artists.
The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, which is also being upgraded, would not be affected.
